Brookfield Democrats Select New Leadership

The Brookfield Democratic Town Committee (DTC) is beginning this local election year with new leadership. Dan Smolnik has been elected Chairman, Ron Jaffe as Vice Chairman, Robert Marconi as Issues Director, and Elaine Tomanio as interim Treasurer, with Jeff Kass continuing as Secretary.  Chairman Smolnik and the entire DTC thanked outgoing co-chairs Monica Bevilacqua and Kathie Schilling for their dedicated service.

Even before this fall's local elections, the Brookfield DTC has key issues to focus upon, including 1) supporting an education budget that fulfills the promise of a safe, quality education for all of Brookfield's children; 2) Providing solid support to Brookfield's first responders, including its police department, as well as continuing to support maintaining Brookfield's infrastructure, such as roads; and 3) insuring that the budget supports the needs of all members of the community while continuing to preserve our traditions and quality of life.  Chairman Smolnik said, “We’ve made great progress in the past few years. Now is the time for us to make sure the progress continues for the benefit of all.”

Beyond those issues, the new Chairman said that his first priority is putting together a Democratic ticket that will appeal to the people of Brookfield to continue the progress of the last four years under First Selectman Bill Davidson and Selectman Howard Lasser.  Chairman Smolnik said, “We look forward to continuing support for First Selectman Davidson and Selectman Howard Lasser.  In addition we believe we have very talented Democrats serving Brookfield in a host of offices.”

Chairman Smolnik extended an invitation to all Brookfield Democrats to get involved with the DTC's efforts, reminding Democrats and capable unaffiliated voters, as well, that there are always numerous vacancies in town boards and commissions with opportunities to make a difference in our community.

I would recommend supporting an increase similar to Ridgefield's which was under 2% (1.97%). If aRead More community like Ridgefield can perform at high levels with an increase under 2%, the Board of Education, in asking for almost twice that is openly admitting that they have installed inefficient management in school administration. Further, the sewer system on the referendum will require municipal funding since it is backed by the full faith and credit of the town of Brookfield and reduces the town's borrowing ability - the advertisement for which indicated it would not impact municipal funding.

The short answer is because they want to. If you spent twice at much they still would. EducationRead More personnel need to be monitored on social media like Patch.
