First Selectman - Brookfield

Information for Brookfield Residents from the First Selectman as of 5 p.m. Thursday

This update will be done daily every afternoon and more frequently if special news becomes available. It will be put on Patch, on the town website, and sent to the newspapers and radio stations.

Today, our Emergency Management Director met face-to-face with CL&P management to tell them Brookfield residents have had enough. For the past 2 days, the Town has had virtually no power restorations. The First Selectman and the Emergency Management Director are meeting twice daily with key Town staff to assure that they have current information. We have insisted that a CL&P liaison person attend these meetings and this is happening.

Electrical Service: 20%-25% of Brookfield homes continue to be without power at this time. Beginning at mid-day, CL&P had two work crews in the Obtuse Rocks Road area. We have a firm commitment from CL&P that three crews will be town beginning at 5:00 today (Thursday). Our Emergency Management Director is meeting one truck to take them to the condos on Silvermine Road. Restoring power to these condos is a high priority because of health and life safety concerns. Actually, restoring power to all Brookfield residents is a high priority for the First Selectman and all of your town officials.

Water, showers and toilets (for those without power): Water is available 24 hours a day at both Center Fire House (Pocono Road next to Town Hall) and Candlewood Fire House (Bayview Drive in Candlewood Shores). Look for and use the garden hoses outside the buildings. The water is potable. Residents can obtain water at the Brookfield Police Department on Silvermine Road. Always bring your own containers when you are obtaining water.

Regional Y availability: The Y has generous offered its facilities to Brookfield residents to obtain water and use toilet and shower facilities. Refer to a separate posting that lists the Y’s hours during this holiday weekend.

 >>>> Bottled Water: If you need drinking water (not for flushing toilets), the town has obtained a limited supply of bottled water. It will be available at Center Fire House on Pocono Road on Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Because our supply is limited, we ask that you use restraint if you do have a true need so that our supplies will be adequate to help other Brookfield residents.

Is your home on the list? Below is a list we compiled earlier today of all streets that have outages. This list has been shared with CL&P. If your house is without power and not on one of these streets, call my office Friday morning after 8:30 a.m. If you can access the Internet, it would be better to send me an email: firstselectman@brookfieldct.gov
