Summer's Last Splash

We're waving goodbye to a great summer and greeting September with a big smile.

It was in the air this morning. I could feel it the cool breeze, hear it from the trees as the gentle wind danced through their leaves. September is coming.

Fresh air and a fresh start are waiting. We'll miss summer around here. All the togetherness that nearly drove me and my three little women mad, the lazy mornings and long hot days, the do-anything-anytime mentality that has ruled supreme over the last months — we'll miss it all.

But we are also looking forward to a little less togetherness and a little more independence. We're looking forward to having a routine to count on, new faces in our lives and new adventures to be sought out and conquered.

We are ready for school. We ready for all the activities that come along with September, even if they transform the mini-van back into the mom bus. It's okay.  I've rested my driving muscles. They're ready to go.

To enjoy the final days of summer, I brought my girls and their friend — who we'll call the Dog Whisperer — to enjoy some waterslide fun at Golf Quest.

They squealed with delight when they spotted the water slides as I pulled into the parking lot, acting like they had just been liberated from a grueling month at math camp. The squeals turned to screams of "Awesome!" from the Adventurer and shrieks of joy from the Butterfly as she came down the waterslide for the first time.

Watching them slide and splash, giggle and run up the steps for another slide, I wonder what this coming year has in store for them.  The summer has been a whirlwind of fun and activities, with daily doses of chaos and plenty of moments to remember.

One thing is certain, summer's last splash was thoroughly enjoyed.
