Site Documents Latest Mountain Lion Sightings
The site includes a petition calling for the state to hold a legislative hearing on the subject, according to CBS New York.
Though state officials have said last year's mountain lion sightings — which turned out to be a real visit from a South Dakota cougar — was a rare occurrence, a small group of residents are claiming that more lions are lurking around the Nutmeg State, according to CBS New York.
A Web site called "Mountain Lion: Cougars of the Valley" features written testimonials of mountain lion sightings from across the state as well as a map that shows where the sightings occurred. Visitors can also sign a petition requesting a state legislative hearing. So far, 228 signatures have been collected.
In response to these latest sightings, Dennis Schain, spokesman for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), told CBS New York that there has yet to be any evidence showing that there's a population of mountain lions living in the state.
The lion that traveled from South Dakota to Connecticut last year was hit by a car and killed in Milford in June.
