Similar Car Leads Officer to DUI, Drug Arrest

Police looking for fleeing vehicle find drugs and paraphernalia instead.

While attempting to locate a car and driver that fled the scene of an accident, Brookfield police instead arrested a New Fairfield man with the bad fortune to be driving a similar car.

Brookfield police were looking for a vehicle Thursday night that had left the scene of a crash in the area of Candlewood Shores when an officer saw a car of similar description driving on Twilight Lane in the Shores.

After the driver, 20-year-old William Johnson, III, of Southview Road, New Fairfield, parked and got out of the vehicle, the officer approached to speak with him and check for damage but found none. Johnson was ruled out as a suspect in the incident, however during the conversation with the officer he appeared to be impaired, according to police.
