Restaurant Review: Moon Star
For fresh taste and good, traditional Chinese fare, Moon Star is the place.
My co-worker and I met for lunch at Moon Star and decided to eat in. She brought her three-year-old daughter along, who had just gotten out of school and was a little bit tired.
The restaurant is definitely more of a take-out place and only has two small tables for eating in. We took one table and one of the owners was sitting at the other. There is nothing fancy about this place, which is nice when toting along a small child who may not want to sit still while the food is prepared. Luckily there is a fish tank nearby with some huge, colorful fish swimming around to entertain little ones, if only for a moment.
Part of the fun about ordering Chinese is sharing meals with friends and family and sampling a smorgasbord of Asian delights. To start we ordered Spring Rolls and Crab Rangoons. Both were delicious, not too greasy and full of flavor.
The Crab Rangoons ($3.95) came eight to a serving and we had enough leftovers to take home to our families. The cream cheese filling was full of flavor and the texture of this appetizer was perfect.
The Spring Rolls ($1.45) came two to an order and this time has an egg roll surprise included as well. I think maybe the gentleman who took the order misunderstood and ordered one for each of us. All were very tasty, light and not too greasy, which is always nice.
For lunch, my co-worker ordered Golden Fingers ($4.95) for her daughter. The Golden Fingers come in a small container filled to the brim with batter-wrapped fried chicken pieces. Her daughter decided to wait until she got home to eat her lunch. I was told that she liked them very much.
My co-worker told me she is a "pescatarian" and browsed the menu for something she could eat. This was the first I had heard of the term, which means she eats vegetables and fish but no meat. Main Moon's menu is extensive and has offerings for vegetarians, pescatarians, dieters and carnivores alike.
She ordered the Broccoli with Hot Garlic Sauce ($8.00). The colorful dish looked very appetizing and she enjoyed it. She said her dish was tasty and fresh but not as spicy as she thought it would have been.
I ordered the Chicken Lo Mein ($7.65), which came with Pork Fried Rice on the side. The lo mein was a little bland, but doctored up with some soy sauce was pretty good. The Pork Fried Rice was very dry.
Overall everything was very good. Portion sizes are ample and prices are reasonable. Our total bill came to $33, including drinks, for lunch for three with leftovers to take home.
