Photos: ReStore Supports Danbury Area Habitat
Donation-based home goods store sponsors building homes for those in need.
Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Danbury is full of surprises.
“We sell hardware and building supplies,” said Paul Tocco, Director of Store Operations. But visitors will find unexpected gems such as a stained glass window, unusual ceiling lighting, a cuddly toy fish in a bowl, silk roman shades and much more — all donations.
Located on Shalvoys Lane off Route 6, the spacious building contains recycled lamps, kitchen items, furniture and tableware, stoves and dishwashers, sofas, chairs, bathroom sinks, kitchen sinks. A store employee will pick up large items (Mondays and Tuesdays only) from anyone — homeowners, contractors, landlords, and big retailers such as Klaff’s, Lowe's and Ring’s End.
“Right now, we’ve been blessed with an abundance of donated Pella windows, insulated and brand new,” Tocco said, “So we can’t accept any used windows at the moment.”
Desirable items come in and go sometimes in hours, or a day. “A good shopper is here two or three times a week,” he added.
All donations must be clean and in good, workable condition. Store employees, most of whom are volunteers with diverse backgrounds, inspect everything. Prices are incredibly reasonable.
