Brookfield police were able to apprehend an alleged burglar Sunday after K9 unit Bruno tracked the suspect from the break-in to where he was hiding in the woods.

According to police, officers responded to a burglary alarm at Brookfield Coin and Card Sunday around 12:48 a.m. As officers arrived, they observed the front window smashed out. After clearing the business and the perimeter of the plaza, they were unable to locate anyone.

K9 officer Bruno was called in and he was able to follow the suspect’s track through the woods, eventually locating 37-year-old Mervin Bundy, of Kent Road, New Milford.

Bundy was placed under arrest and taken to the Brookfield Police Department for processing. He stands charged with criminal mischief in the first degree, criminal attempt of burglary in the second degree and three counts of narcotics violations. Bond was set at $10,000 pending a court date in Danbury Superior Court on February 10.
