Get out and enjoy spring's offerings this weekend with an informative nature walk, a parade with baby animals or a craft to give to mom.
- Teen Movie Night at the Brookfield Library: Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, Part I, will be shown in the community room on Friday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. As Harry races against time and evil to destroy the Horcruxes, he uncovers the existence of the three most powerful objects in the wizarding world: the Deathly Hallows. This movie is rated PG-13 and is appropriate for ages 12 to 18. Free popcorn will be served.
- What's Growing in Your Backyard? The Pratt Nature Center in New Milford is offering a program for kids ages 10 and up from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m on Saturday, April 30. During a tour of the property, participants will learn how to identify trees, review leaf characteristics and learn about the role of trees in the ecosystem. The program fee is $3 for members, $5 for non-members.
- Get ready for Mother's Day! Kids can decorate a fun and creative T-shirt or apron for mom at the Knack Mother's Day Event at Michaels Arts and Crafts. Suitable for ages three and up, this program is free with the purchase of a T-shirt or apron. 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
- Stew Leonard's will host an Opening Parade Celebration for their Little Farm and have a Name Our Babies contest on Saturday, April 30, at 4:30 p.m. The parade will be led by a stilt walker and feature Stew's classic characters, including Clover the Cow, Daphne Duck and Cynthia Chick. The farmers will bring in the baby cows, goats and sheep on a hay-filled wagon. There will be face painting, balloons and snacks for the kids. This event is free.
- The Brookfield Library is inviting adults and children ages four and up to spend the afternoon with Iditarod dog musher Karen Land and her Alaskan Husky on Sunday, May 1, at 2 p.m. Learn about the Alaskan Iditarod Sled Dog Race and meet Borage, a sled dog who was a member of Land's team. This program is funded by a grant from the Brookfield Education Foundation. Seating is limited and on a first come, first served basis. This event is free.
