Grab & Go: Puppets, Nature and Gifts for Dad

Five activities for family fun this week.

Make a special gift for Dad, help clean up Lake Lillinonah or catch a safari-themed puppet show this week.

  • Let the kids design a special Duct Tape Wallet for Dad for Father's Day at Michael's Make-It-Take-It event on Thursday, June 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This event is free while supplies last and is suitable for ages three and up.
  • Need something to do on Friday night? Take the kids to a Summer Safari Puppet Show at the Toy Room in Bethel from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Ultra Violet Puppets will present a safari-themed puppet show followed by an interactive craft for kids ages three and up. The cost is $15 per child. Call 203-791-0531 to register.
  • If you miss Thursday's Make-It Take-It event, you'll have a second opportunity to create a personalized gift for dad. Kids ages three and up are invited to Decorate a Ceramic Coffee Mug as a Father's Day gift at Michael's. The event is free with the purchase of a coffee mug and runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 18.
  • Kids Animals and Art Adventure Day is a one-day class featuring a nature hike and hands-on lessons in which kids can learn about wildlife, habitats and native species identification. After the hike, families can enjoy a puppet show by Ultra Violet Puppets. The event will be held at the Old Quarry Nature Center in Danbury from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A fee of $20 per child includes all activities, craft and a nature journal. RSVP by contacting animalsandartcamp@gmail.com
  • Spend the morning on Lake Lillinonah lending a hand in the annual Save the Lake clean-up. Friends of the Lake will gather on Saturday, June 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by the Route 133 State Boat Launch (Steel Bridge) in Bridgewater and see what a difference you can make by simply removing garbage and debris from Lake Lillinonah. All supplies will be provided in exchange for a small amount of your effort and time. This is an excellent way to see parts of Lake Lillinonah you may not have had the chance to explore.
