Grab & Go: Crafts and Culture
Seven family activities to add to your calendar.
Learn about a far-off land, listen to stories together or catch a free movie. This week's calendar is packed with hands-on activities that are free, fun and educational.
- Celebrate the culture of China with crafts at Michael's Passport to Fun. Kids can create their own sand art and tangram on Tuesday, July 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is free for children ages three and up.
- Teens are invited to Knot Tying & Touching the Void Movie on Wednesday, July 27, at 4 p.m. at the Brookfield Library. Learn to tie basic knots and watch the edge-of-your-seat adventure film Touching the Void. After scaling the never-before-climbed 21,000-foot Siula Grande, climbers Joe Simpson and Simon Yates face their greatest challenge yet: getting back down. Snacks will be provided, bring your own drinks and/or dinner. No registration necessary.
- The Brookfield Muskrats swim team will hold a Swim-a-Thon in Honor of Maggie O'Connor at the Brookfield Town Beach on Thursday, July 28. All donations will be given to the Kids Kingdom Improvement Project c/o Maggie O'Connor. The swim schedule starts with the Muskrats 10 and under from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by Muskrats 11 and older at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and members of the public are invited to swim laps from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the front gate all day.
- Also on Thursday, kids can celebrate the culture of South Africa through crafts at Michael's Passport to Fun. During this free session, kids will create friendship bracelets and animal pins. Ages three and up can participate from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- The Very Hungry Artist program is back at the library on Thursday, July 28 at 2 p.m. Appropriate for children ages five through seven.
- Twilight Tales Family Story Time will be held at the library on Thursday, July 28 at 7 p.m. Designed for age three to six.
- Kids ages four and up can head to Town Hall for Horse Stories with Mrs. Santi, as a part of the Summer Reading Program. Meet at the horse sculptures at 2 p.m on Friday, July 29.
