Girls Lacrosse Bounces Back With Blowout Win

The Lady Bobcats Pounded The Lady Falcons 19-7 In SWC Clash

The Lady Bobcats (4-1, 3-1) were anxious to get back on the field after their disappointing loss to Newtown (4-1, 3-0) last Friday.  Once they did, it became apparent immediately that Joel Barlow (1-4, 1-3) would not get in the way of them getting back to their winning ways.

Brookfield scored four goals in the opening few minutes of the contest, prompting Barlow coach Joe Caruso to call a timeout.  The Lady Falcons had only gained possession once in the first five minutes of play and he had seen enough.  Unfortunatly for him, he would see a lot more as the Lady Bobcats scored twice more following the timeout before Barlow answered with it's first goal.

"We were so excited for this game," head coach Kary Rodgers said about the team's desire to get back out and play after the loss to the rival Lady Nighthawks.  "We were ready and wanted to win.  We still have a lot to work on though."

Senior captain Jackie Brown scored three of Brookfield's early goals, receiving a nice assist from junior midfielder Emily Leonard on her first before scoring after a penalty and then making a great individual effort to force her way to the net for the third.  Brown would go on to score six goals in the 19-7 rout.

"She's a great all around player," Rodgers said of her star versatile captain.  Brown dominated the draws and caused havoc on defense throughout the game.  "We will miss her next year."

Brookfield's offense was efficient throughout the first half, generating 20 shots and scoring on 14 of them for a 14-3 advantage.  They moved the ball around the offensive zone with ease and made precise passes to cutters who found open space in front of the net.

Senior captain Alexa Foldy had two goals and an assist.  Junior attacker Kathryn Marron had three goals and two assists, as did Leonard.  Marron would end up with four goals and three assists while Leonard added two more goals to her totals.

"She was awesome," Rodgers said of Leonard's activity on both offense and defense.  "She's another all around midfielder and she's a great kid."

Junior attackers Kelsey Zimmerer and Shannon Gruda added goals and so did senior midfielder Caitlyn Stauffer.

The easy victory did not come without a cost.  Foldy went down with an ankle injury early in the second half when she got tangled up with a Barlow player.  Foldy was having another solid game and is a key playmaker for the Lady Bobcats.  The extent of the injury was unknown and the coach was hoping it wasn't severe.

Brookfield has four straight road games coming up.  They play at Bethel (3-2, 2-2) on Friday before traveling to Immaculate (5-0, 4-0) and Weston (2-4, 1-3) next week.
