Chamber of Commerce Holds Annual Meeting, Appoints 2011 Officers

Chamber members get together to reflect on 2010 and look forward to the coming year.

The Brookfield Chamber of Commerce held their Annual Breakfast Meeting at the Fox Hill Inn on a clear January morning wedged between multiple snow events. Its focus was to review the accomplishments of the Chamber, to announce the six nominees for the Chamber Member of the Year Award, to ratify the slate of officers and new appointees to the Board of Directors and most importantly to thank the 60-plus volunteers that helped the Chamber recognize their most successful year.

First Selectman, Bill Davidson, was on hand and spoke about the repaving of 18 miles of town road with an additional $8 Million in the bank to be spent in the next four years for even greater improvements.  He hinted that several large tracks of land were on the brink of finalizing plans for development and also touched on exciting plans for Kids Kingdom and other recreation projects.

Linda Wagner, Chamber president for 2010, noted Chamber successes and reminded the attendees that the Chamber exists to support the business community. With 50-plus events in 2010, the Chamber was able to provide education, networking and exposure to its member. She emphasized that there is a Shop Local initiative and unveiled future plans, including becoming involved in Brookfield’s 225th Anniversary Celebration and an overhaul of the website.

Officers for 2011 will be President Linda Wagner (Savings Bank of Danbury), VP Jacqueline A. Salame (Tour De Force Design), Secretary Valerie Maitland-Smith (SCI Business Consulting) and Treasurer Rich Starkins (Charter Oak Financial). Two new Board of Directors Members were also ratified including Attorney Chris Walls and Patricia Kane of Cumulus Media.

Founding Chamber Member Linda McCaffrey (McCaffrey Realty Professionals) was surprised to receive the Annual Presidents Award for her contributions to the Board of Directors and many of the committees.

All volunteers on all of the committees were handed certificates of appreciation from the Chamber of Commerce.
