Brookfield’s registered Republicans elected the 25-member Brookfield Republican Town Committee (RTC) at the biannual Republican Caucus Tuesday night at Brookfield High School (BHS).

The 78 town Republicans in attendance elected the full endorsed RTC slate (listed below) by 14 votes after two nominations from the floor: Chris Delia, who lost a GOP-endorsed bid for Board of Education (BOE) in November, and Fred Ball. The RTC-endorsed candidates garnered between 50 and 68 votes in balloting, with Ball receiving 36 and Delia 32.

“About three months ago we started the process,” RTC Vacancy Committee Chairman George Walker said. “A little over 30 days ago, we finally asked if all the RTC members wanted to continue as members or resign,” with 22 of the 23 then-current members choosing to stay on (there were two vacancies). Former member Pat Donohue chose to step down.

The three new members — Glenn Christy, George Hope (a former RTC chairman) and Linda Taylor — were chosen from an initial 15 applicants, who were culled down to eight before being presented to the RTC, which finalized the slate on January 3.

“We went through a detailed process,” Walker said, which included whether they were a member of the local Republican Party, had voted in recent elections and were current on their taxes, “Not only for those three members, but for the current members.”

Delia, who was nominated from the floor Tuesday night, made it into a runoff at the RTC’s January 3 meeting, but could not garner enough support to be elected to the committee.

RTC Chairman Marty Flynn said the committee has plans to look into revising their bylaws to include committee alternates, possibly as many as 10, as a means of getting more interested individuals involved, something done by Republican committees in neighboring towns.
