So glad these scum bags were caught! That was our car they smashed at Woodbury Ski Area. They stole a valuable purse and several electronics. The cops were wonderful, but the staff at Woodbury Ski were HORRIBLE. I do NOT recommend going there.

Woodbury ski area is not resposible for items left in car...perhaps rather than bashing the staff you should act like a responsible adult and not leave valuables in you car for the day when you know that you will be away from your car skiing because unfortunately there are loosers out there looking to take advantage of people who are not careful....stinks, but its a part of being an adult

It's actually Mr. Beck with the injuries. In the interests in leaving nothing to blogger speculation, what was the aledged cause of those injuries. I hope he didn't use his head to smash the car window when he broke into the car. Also, to prevent people thinking that excessive force was used by the police in the arrest, it would be a good idea for an explanation.

According to Lt. Roach, Beck fell. Lt. Roach said he was not at the troop at the time and that was all the information he had.

To clarify: Lt. Roach stated that he himself was not at the troop at that time.

Perhaps Woodbury Ski Resort should have acted responsibly and swiftly when the smash and grab was reported by another visitor and my family. Their reaction was "no big rush" in calling the police. Also, if you knew there were thefts in your parking lot, then the resort should have acted responsibly and notified your visitors of the potential risk. We had valuables and significant damage to our luxury car. Should we have rented an only Chevy for our trip?

I am wondering about people that require Others to Notify Them there is a risk if they leave Valuables in their vehicle - and in View. I remember them Good Ole Days when common sense and self responsibility were the norm, oh well them days are gone.

And I remember the days when customer service and a satisfied customer were how businesses were built. That'll never happen at Wooddbury Ski resort! Oh well.

Unfortunately most people don't use common sense these days and choose to blame other people for their stupid mistakes because they don't want to take the blame.

It's common sense not to leave valuables visible in your car, you really shouldn't leave them in there at all. Also nobody cares about the fact that you have a luxury car, that was your choice to sped that much money on a car that can do the same thing as a Chevy. Does the fact that you have a luxury car make you a more important person than one who owns a Chevy, your lack of responsibility to leave your valuables at home should put you above someone else who has a problem?

There shouldn't need to be signs posted that you're responsible for damage to your car or that you shouldn't leave valuables visible. Things like that can happen anywhere, that would mean there would need to be signs at every business and parking lot.

Take some responsibility for your own lack of common sense. If you didn't leave valuables visible, your car probably wouldn't have been broken into, and as for calling the police I'm sure that if you can afford a nice luxury car thn you can afford a cell phone where you can call the police yourself.

My car was backed into at a parking lot with no cameras, and nobody stopped to leave a note. That's not the building owners responsibility, it's mine. Get over yourself

Although Woodbury Ski Area is not be culpable for the theft, their handling of the situation is what is worth mention. It was another family that noticed the smashed window and reported it to the staff. The staff made no effort to contact the owner of the vehicle, nor did they feel it necessary to contact police. To make matters worse yet, the management was particularly uninterested about the entire event and offered no refund or partial even though our outing was needless to say cut short. That being said the issue here had nothing to do with being careless (as nothing was in plane sight in the vehicle), the issue is that a crime was committed and fortunately no one was injured and thankfully the criminals have been caught (a fact that was not without interest by my 4 and 7yr old sons who had their Xmas presents (2 iPods) stolen). Many thanks to local PD and to the families that offered my distraught children food and drink during the ordeal.

Nobody just breaks into a car and hopes that there is something worth stealing. If a criminal is going to go through the process of smashing out a window of a car where anybody could see them while they're doing it, it's because they already know there is something of value in it. They're not going to risk smashing open a window, nothing being in the car, and then needing to go check another car.

People are always going to say that there was nothing in sight because they don't want to take any responsibility at all. I'm not saying that the criminals weren't at fault, but a little bit of brain power on the victims part by moving a purse or valuables to the trunk most likely would have avoided this situation; and let's face the facts, if the guy took off with valuables there's no way for them to prove that the items weren't in plain sight.

Also it says in the article the criminals were caught a short time after the car break in only a few miles apart, which to me sounds like the cops were called in a pretty timely manner.

How is Woodbury ski supposed to notify these people of a car break in, when the only identifying information is a license plate? It's a good possibility that they made mention over a loud speaker or went around asking people; maybe the victims just weren't around when they were trying to find them. It's not like they have a computer where they can look up a license plate number and say Mr. John Doe report to the front desk

The least the ski area could do is post a sign:

DON'T BE AN IDIOT - LOCK VALUABLES IN TRUNK !

Classy outfit with equally classy employees. BTW why don't you start posting on about the folks that had their cars broken into at local churches. God be with you.

I don't work for woodbury ski, nor have I ever been there; and I don't feel this way only about that company, I would say the same for any person who leaves valuables visible in their car in any place. It could be a commuter lot, a church, restaurant, grocery store, movie theater or airport it doesn't matter.

People should have enough common sense, especially in a world like today, to keep valuables hidden from sight. There shouldn't need to be signs posted in parking lots, because it's common logic not to leave valuables unattended or in plain sight. Like your said before why not talk about what happened in the church? I don't see anybody saying that there should be signs in their parking lot, do you?

A car break in can happen anywhere; a parking lot, on the side of the road, even in your driveway. Do you really believe that signs need to be posted to secure your valuables, because if you do that means they need to be posted everywhere; in every single parking lot, on every road, and in every driveway. If I go to your house and my car gets broken into, I'll make sure to blame you because you didn't make me aware to secure my valuables.

This does not seem to have anything to do with Newtown. Hoa, can you please stop all these comments from hitting the Newtown page.

Hey - what is going on with the Patch? The comment I made earlier - Newtown people being tired of seeing all this stuff that is not about Newtown - is not under this article anymore. But it is on the front page of the Newtown patch. What has happened to so many of the articles and pictures were were use to seeing about our local town. Huge disappointment.

Gary I think everyone understands your viewpoint that Woodbury ski sucks. I'm not saying they do and I'm not saying they don't, I've never been there; but their customer service has nothing to do with car break-ins and doesn't negate the fact that this is partly the victims responsibility that they left the items in plain sight.

Like this article says the break-ins happened in many different locations including gym parking lots, walking trails, and churches. I don't see anybody trying to blame any of those facilities for leaving their valuables in sight or saying there should have been signs posted.

Let's keep the discussion on topic if you have a problem with Woodbury ski maybe you should start a new comment feed or better yet take it up with the company!

I just don't understand these people that are blaming Woodbury Ski - I do not work for them nor am I affiliated with them but aren't we adults? I think common sense would be to lock your valuables in a trunk or hide them so nobody will see them. Just because your in Woodbury where crime isn't low doesn't mean that there isn't crime or could be crime. Could the situation be handled different from them? Probably. But again, it's park at your own risk. Your car could be broken into in your own driveway. So if you have a dog and it didn't bark to let you know somebody was outside are you gonna blame it for the break in? Like get real. If you have such a vendetta again WS - then don't go back. It's that simple. It sucks you got your stuff stolen and it sucks that it didn't seem like it was done in a timely manner, but learn from it and move on. Like somebody mentioned earlier they were caught within reasonable time so how do you know they or somebody didn't call the cops in fair enough time. You can get your stuff stolen anywhere. Stop crying about it and learn. I had somebody break into my boyfriends car and steal our stuff with it right outside our apartment. They stole my clothes of all things and numerous car parts. I can only be mad at the people who have to stoop so low to steal other people's thing they work hard for.
