This past Sunday, the Brookfield Historical Society and the Brookfield VFW Post 10202 honored three area veterans who distinguished themselves in battle in time of war.
Pictured are event moderator Gene Roberts along with Lorenzo Piscitelli, left, who served with the 69th Division during the Battle of the Bulge. He is showing the audience his WWII Eisenhower Jacket he wore during the War. Lieutenant Colonel Michael Zacchia, seated in back is a veteran of the war in Iraq, who received a purple heart and two Bronze stars for valor while serving as a senior advisor to an Iraqi Battalion. Not shown is Salvatore Maggio, who served in Italy during WWII with the 34th Infantry Division, suffered frost bite and lost part of his left foot.
More than 100 veterans and their families attended the Musical Salute for the Brookfield and area veterans held at the Brookfield Library Community Room. Billy Michael’s B and J and B Lite and the Brookfield Veteranettes, made up of Brookfield singers Sarah Fay, Laura Evans and Leanna Pizzo, entertained the audience.
Each of the honorees received a certificate of appreciation from the town of Brookfield signed by First Selectman Bill Davidson and Society President John Furlong.
