Laurie Klein Photographer Mentors Brookfield and Newtown HS Seniors
About Laurie Klein Photography
Laurie Klein, an alumnus of Brookfield High School, first found her artistic passion in high school thanks to her BHS teachers and the professionals that supported her dream! Now as a very successful world renowned professional artist, commercial photographer, lecturer and gifted teacher she is paying it forward to current high school seniors in a special internship program. She also has developed a number of workshops that help develop creativity in all aspects of one's life and has been 'mentoring' her students of all ages for the past 30+ years.
Laurie received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Ohio University.
Laurie studied with the internationally famous black and white landscape photographer Ansel Adams, who in his own words he said:
"Laurie's style is unique, combining a wonderful ability for composition and she has a sensitivity to her subjects that will carry her to the top of her field. I can't teach the way she sees and feels!" Ansel Adams http://www.anseladams.com/
"Life unfolds...... I will follow my heart. I will live in the moment. I will remember everything." Laurie Klein laurie@laurieklein.com w 203~740~1110
What is the photography internship?
A few years ago, Laurie Klein began an internship program for seniors from Brookfield and Newtown High Schools that runs from September through January. Due to the intensity of the program, Laurie is only working with six students (3 from Brookfield HS and 3 from Newtown HS). They meet once a week for three hours at Laurie's Gallery in Brookfield. She will provide assignments, provide feedback on their work and will help them to build and further develop their portfolio.
In January the student interns will go with Laurie to the Silo, Henderson Cultural Center
Hunt Hill Farm Trust* to work with Valerie Culbertson who is the Silo Gallery Director. They will be preparing to set up a photography show to display their work. This is the first time that Laurie is partnering with the Silo and she is very excited to be able to offer this additional opportunity to her students.
Save the dates:
A Gallery Exhibition at the Silo * featuring the interns' work will be given on January 14th from 3-5 pm.
Gallery Talk on Sunday Jan 23 2-4 pm*. Laurie Klein, Valerie Culberton and the Brookfield and Newtown HS student interns.
* The Silo is located at 44 Upland Road, New Milford, CT 06776
